3rd Power Amplification American Dream Combo Tube Amplifier Debuts
Designer Jamie Scott at 3rd Power Amplification is living the American Dream, launching the new amp of the same name at the 2010 Summer NAMM show, conveniently located at the company's home base of Nashville, Tennessee.
The 3rd Power American Dream, a 1 x 12 combo tube amplifier, features a switchable-power tube amp paired with a single 12-inch Celestion Vintage 30 loudspeaker (though you can upgrade to Alnico Gold if you like). Selectable between 22W and 10W of output, the amp section offers a two-stage preamp using a combination of 12AT7 and 12AX7 tubes, with 6L6 tubes on the output stage. That's a lot of tubes. The two-channel American Dream is voiced to deliver the tones of the classic 1962 brownface Deluxe on Channel 1, and the 1965 blackface Deluxe on Channel 2.
Each channel has a switchable Bright circuit, as well as a global Presence control for adding final sweetening to the deal. The new amp's cabinet design incorporates 3rd Power’s now-signature triangular speaker chamber -- an internal enclosure designed to eliminate the standing waves that plague conventional parallel-side designs. For additional variety of tone, the back panel has a removable Switchback port (shown below) to enable open-back operation and even wider tonal possibilities.
According to 3rd Power, the American Dream has found instant acceptance in the pro ranks. Besides company president, amp designer, and rock guitarist Jamie Scott, other musicians like Patrick Matera, the guitarist with Katy Perry, have already begun using the American Dream (the prototype model).
"Our goal here," says Scott, "Is to bring 3rd Power’s patent-pending tube circuitry and cabinet concept to the world of self-contained combo amps. The HLH100 pro touring rig has met with incredible acceptance among rock, country, and alternative players in our first year, and the American Dream combo is designed to bring that same killer tone within reach of a lot more players."
If you will be attending Summer NAMM, which begins today, visit 3rd Power at booth 1627 to get a look and possibly a demo of the new American Dream in the "3rd Power Whisper Room."
Made in the USA, the American Dream combo guitar amp carries an introductory price of $1,999 (Street). For more information, please visit 3rd Power Amplification's Web site at 3rdpoweramps.com.
