Are you in or are you out? When it comes to Logic patches, 9 Soundware is most definitely in. 9 Soundware has released I/O, a downloadable kit of Channel Strip setting files and instructions (in a PDF document) that show you how to set up Apple Logic Pro effects as a series of performance-oriented processors to be used with MIDI hardware.

I/O's included "effects recipes" are designed to be used with an expression pedal, a sustain pedal, and the pitch wheel. Unlike conventional patch products, I/O offers documentation that guides the user through the necessary setup to configure interactive signal processors within Logic Pro.

The 17 controller assignments for 12 Logic Pro plugins highlighted in the documentation are designed to work in tandem, as a portion of the sound set involves simultaneous control across multiple plugins. While intended to be configured with "optional" devices, I/O is built around three types of controls that are are commonly found in MIDI keyboard controllers: continuous (for example, knobs), "non latching" on / off (keys), and center detented (pitch wheel, for example).

The I/O kit organizes its sounds into eight categories: Pitch Shifter, Wah-wah Pedal, Envelope Follower, Downsampling, Delay, Reverb, Fuzz, and Signal Generator. Each category consists of 5 "effects recipes" with the exception of the Pitch Shifter and Wah-wah Pedal categories, which include 10 each, for a total of 50 Channel Strip settings and corresponding controller assignments.

According to 9 Soundware, I/O covers atypical signal routing, glitches, and extreme settings, offering some unique tools to help you get the most out of your DAW. I/O makes use of less prominent Apple plugins such as AURogerBeep, AUDistortion, Test Oscillator, SilverVerb, and AVerb. True to the 9 Soundware mantra, "It’s not what you use, but how you use it," the kit was designed to be a cost-effective tool for adventurous music composition and performance within Logic Pro.

The I/O sound kit is now available for $14.99 from 9 Soundware. Learn more at 9soundware.com.
