Users of Apple Logic Pro will find themselves back in the '80s with the new 9 Soundware Operator ($14.99 MSRP) collection of presets for Logic's EFM1 synthesizer. The smooth Operator presets recall the early days of FM synthesis, and rehash all the bell-like sounds you heard in early electro and pop.

The soundset consists of 30 inharmonic sounds and 20 tonal sounds, all with settings for impacts, noise, and backdrops, as well as settings that are designed specifically to be played with heavy use of the Mod wheel. The preset names are as varied as can be: Breakdancrrrrrrrrr.pst, Creepy-crawly.pst, Hair Metal.pst, and Piñata.pst, Chop Suey.pst, and Fluff Assasin.pst, to name a few.

The 0.2 MB Operator wouldn't be what it is if it didn't also include a few presets that encompass the quintessential sound of FM sounds (Mullet.pst and Menthol.pst, for example). Learn more about Operator at the 9 Soundware site.
