9 Soundware Orchestral Disorder: Orchestra-Inspired Presets For Logic Pro

February 18, 2011
9 Soundware released the Orchestral Disorder collection of orchestra-inspired presets for Apple Logic Pro.

For Apple Logic Pro, 9 Soundware released Orchestral Disorder, a collection of orchestra-inspired presets. According to 9 Soundware, the concept behind the new sound set was not to closely emulate acoustic instruments, but rather to explore the possibilities of orchestral timbres without human limitations or purist biases -- in other words, the goal was to do things that orchestral instrumentalists wouldn't.

Featuring three main components, the multi-format Orchestral Disorder collection includes files for the Sculpture and ES2 synthesizers, as well as Channel Strips.

The Sculpture component of the sound set explores the possibilities of the instrument beyond the type of sounds that it is known for producing. Here is where the "disorder" part of the title comes from: for Sculpture, extensive use of String and Object parameter modulation, Morph, and Jitter, to name a few, are all incorporated in creating impressionistic renderings of orchestral tones crossed with elements that are chaotic, unnatural, and jarring.

All in all, the Sculpture component of the sound set includes 100 files organized into give categories: Violin, Cello, Double Bass, Timpani, and Noise. The string instrument categories are further divided into the subcategories Arco and Pizzicato.

The ES2 presets of Orchestral Disorder harness the precision and flexibility of the instrument, 9 Soundware says. In shaping these sounds, elements such as Digiwaves, noise LFOs, and random value modulation sources were manipulated to simultaneously simulate the natural attributes of instruments and contort familiar timbres into something more abstract. This component of the sound set includes 50 files organized into the following categories: Choir, Organ, Theremin, and Turntable. The Choir category is further divided into subcategories Female and Male.

The Turntable files are noise instruments inspired by scratching. These presets echo sonic and interactive attributes of vinyl scratching with the advantages of MIDI control.

Included in the form of Channel Strip settings are 25 ambiences and textural modifiers built from Logic Pro plugins, which were designed to extend the sonic range of the Sculpture and ES2 presets of Orchestral Disorder. These files use extreme settings and atypical routing of effects to radically alter the source audio.

Lastly, the Channel Strip component is made up of just two categories: Ambience (Non-rhythmic and Rhythmic) and Distortion.

Orchestral Disorder is modular in nature, so you can purchase the complete version ($39.99) with all three components, or you can buy the Sculpture ($24.99) and ES2 ($14.99) components as partial downloads. The Channel Strip files are exclusive to the complete edition.

The Orchestral Disorder preset collection is now available from 9soundware.com.
