ART PRO VLA II and Voice Channel: They Look Evil, But Don't Worry, They're Here to Help!
New For NAMM 2008, ART has introduced two new professional-grade rack units.
The PRO VLA II is a two channel, valve-driven compressor / limiter / amplifier. The unit utilizes and optical level detection circuit for more "transparent" dynamics leveling, and the gain stage is driven by a single 12AT7 for warm, natural sounding compensation. The PRO VLA II also features:
- Variable Threshold, Ratio & Output Controls.
- LED Backlit VU Input/Output Level Monitoring.
- Ten Segment LED Gain Reduction Monitoring.
- Active Balanced XLR & 1/4" Inputs and Outputs.
- Toroidal Transformers for Reduced Mechanical and Electrical Hum.
Also introduced is the Voice Channel, a single channel strip with "digital connectivity." What kind of connectivity you ask? In addition to ADAT Lite-Pipe, S/PDIF, AES/EBU and TOSLink Digital outs, the Voice Channel has a USB output, making it hands-down the meanest looking USB interface on the market [not to mention the least portable]. I bet it sounds AWESOME with Garageband. Some other features of the ART Voice Channel:
- Selectable plate voltage and variable input impedance.
- Powerful Semi-Parametric EQ.
- Dynamics Processing Section including Compressor / Limiter / De-Esser / Gate.
- Classic ART Tube Preamp Design.
- Multiple Insertion Points for Outboard Processing.
