TC-Helicon VoiceTone Double: It'll Create a Time Paradox, Marty!

January 18, 2008
VoiceTone Double from TC Helicon

So you've convinced your producer to let you double-track your vocals in the studio ["like John Lennon," you said], but now you've got to reproduce those lush melodies live . . . what's a single-dimensional human performer to do? Now, there's a solution. The TC-Helicon VoiceTone Double undersells itself by name alone as it can create up to four humanized overdubs at once. Like Calvin's cardboard box, the TC-Helicon VoiceTone Double is both a duplicator AND a time machine. That's right, this pedal actually tears a hole in the fabric of space-time in order to create instantaneous, live, doubled vocals, dimensional / temporal ramifications be damned!

Now, I'm no electrical engineer, but I once heard a guy talking about String Theory, and I'm pretty sure the The VoiceTone Double achieves its effect in one of two ways: either it calls a future version of the vocalist back to the present to re-perform the vocals OR it punches a temporary hole through to another dimension wherein a secondary iteration of the vocalist is also performing the same song -- albeit with nearly undetectable variations! I could be wrong.

Either way, it works and sounds pretty natural doing so. Using detune, microshift, and chorus effects, you can tighten or loosen the vocal doubling and store these parameters over thirty different presets. You conrol the pitch, timing, and levels of each patch. It even has the courtesy to phantom power your condenser mic if need be.

Wow, those guys at TC-Helicon deserved the Nobel waaaay more than Al Gore and his "scientist" crew. Now if only the VoiceTone Double could work in some sort of reverse / halving mode on those hecklers from Earthen Notes Cafe. Don't they know I'm a sensitive singer-songwriter? I BANISH THEE!

Actually, absence of products to sell gives us our absence of buyers. We're not a store; we report on new products that are coming out and provide demonstrations and interviews concerning specific pieces of gear.

Right now, I know it's difficult to tell which articles are stories or reviews when viewed on the main page -- we're working on some conceptual redesigns to make this very easily apparent -- should definitely make for a better user experience!
