Access Virus TI Oscillator Tutorial With Bill Holland, Part One
Bill Holland takes a look at the oscillators Access Virus TI after reviewing the arpeggiator in his last Access trilogy. Bill takes the synthesized sounds from clicking to full shape by modifying the waves from sine to saw to pulse and in between.

BILL HOLLAND: Welcome back to Gearwire. My name is Bill Holland, and today we're looking at the Access Virus TI, specifically at how to program the oscillators on the keyboard.
I've taken oscillators 1 through 3: it's these guys right here. This actually lets you select them but you'll see the light now is on for oscillator number 1, and I'm not going to turn on oscillator 3 -- this is the switch for oscillator 3 -- the reason being most synthesizers you generally have two main oscillators. This being a very advanced synthesizer, one that in a lot of ways pushing the boundaries of what you can do with a keyboard, they've offered a third. It's especially useful too because it's very geared towards music where you need a very large sound. What I've done is I've taken all levels down. Actually, I've taken the semitone all the way down to -48 so it's not zeroed out, the reason being that I want to create from the most basic sound possible and work my way up from there. So, if I play a note [BILL PLAYS SOME NOTES], you got clicking; that's in your synthesizer. So, let me go in here [BILL TWEAKS WAVE SELECT/PW]. Now you'll notice when I move the Wave Select knob, changing the type of sine wave being delivered, straight sine and then the various waveforms. Alright, now in order to get that sound to take shape, right now we're over at Wave, we can take it more toward the saw wave. Now you'll notice right now it says "oscillator shape 1" and it says "wave saw 32%", and now we're moving it more towards a saw wave waveform that's somewhere in between saw and pulse. I can toy with this.
Now, let me bring the semitone up so we have our synthesizer up where it's supposed to be [BILL TWEAKING SEMITONE KNOB]. Again, listen to this and you can actually really play with this while performing live. It's another way that you can use the Access Virus in performance.
