Akai Professional iPK25 And SynthStation Music Production Application Announced For Apple iPhone, iPod Touch
Apple iPhone and iPod Touch hipsters will have two new app toys to play with, once Akai Professional releases the iPK25 keyboard controller ($299 MSRP, $99 Street) and the SynthStation music production application.
The iPK25 and SynthStation turn the handheld devices into portable music production studios for making music on the go. The SynthStation app draws features from Akai's MINIAK synth and provides three synthesizers for creating and modifying melodies, chords, and bass lines.
Using SynthStation, you can create and save sequences and complete songs. The app contains drum kits and three different three-oscillator synths. Its arpeggiator with preset patterns, built-in effects, filters, and XY control interface are on hand for making melodic and accompaniment parts and controlling key parameters.
The SynthStation's on-screen keyboard may be used with the companion iPK25, a 25-key MIDI keyboard with a built-in dock for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The iPK25 offers two octaves of Velocity-sensitive, synth-action keys, pitch and modulation wheels, and physical buttons for octave up / down, soundbank selections, and other commonly used settings. Furthermore, the MIDI keyboard features a stereo pair of RCA line outputs, a headphone output, and a USB / MIDI output.
Akai plans on making the SynthStation app available this month from the iTunes App Store. The iPK25 will begin shipping in March, 2010.
