TOM VIOLA: Now we're going to move on to discuss the AKG C 4000 B microphone. This is something that is a very , very versatile microphone for the studio in that this is a three-polar pattern microphone that provides three different pickup patterns: omnidirectional, cardiod, and hypercardiod, switchable on the front of the microphone, die cast housing, made in Vienna, true 1" diaphragm. This is the first in the series that goes multi-pattern, true 1" diaphragm, gold-plated XLR connector. This is a world-class quality studio microphone.

Also, it features the AKG roll-off switch set at a 0 or 100-Hz roll-off. The 4000 carries a three-year warranty, made in Vienna, Austria. It is another alternative to -- for the customer that may be can't afford to step up to a very expensive microphone, it's a reasonably priced mic, and three patterns which means you can use it on voices, whether it's a single singer or cluster of singers providing background vocals on a production. Different instruments require different pickup patterns; you've got it all on this microphone.

Also, a nice feature of the C 4000 B microphone is that it's a transformer-less design. By not including a transformer inside the microphone, you're now protecting or reducing the chances of the microphone picking up noise from RF or other sources and getting that noise into your microphone. It also is internally shock mounted by the company in Vienna when it's built so that it reduces any kind of rumble or internal self-noise present in the microphone.

A very well designed mic from start to finish: C 4000 B.
