AKG GB 40 Guitar Bug: Because There's No White Noise Dilemma In China

December 19, 2008
AKG GB 40

We catch up with friend of Gearwire Juan Dies, who shows us his AKG GB 40 Guitar Bug. This convenient, body-packless wireless transmitter makes AKG's wireless system a breeze to use on stage as the bug cross pollinates the inputs of several guitars during the course of a Sones De Mexico show.

And as an added bonus, Sones De Mexico plugs in the bugs for a special, exclusive ensemble!

[JUAN DIES PERFORMING WITH FRIENDS]

JUAN DIES: My name is Juan Dies with Sones de Mexico Ensemble, and I'm here in my home with two of my friends, Juan River who is a fiddler in Sones de Mexico Ensemble, and Irekani Chavez with Tarima Son who is a music director, and we have brought all of our instruments together today to show some of the solutions that we found for ethnic folk musicians for whom electroacoustic instruments are not made; we have to find our own solutions to deal with multi-instrumentalism and mic'ing instruments from around the world.

We're demonstrating the use of the Guitar Bug, which is a very compact wireless system that will transmit to one of these receivers over here. This is something that we have embraced with the group now also as a way of reducing the use of many channels, so we can actually plug this, walk around stage and find an instrument, plug in, and it'll come through this system.

This saved our behind in a recent concert that we did in Beijing. When we arrived, the setup was a lot smaller than what the group needed, and luckily I was carrying this case with me with four Guitar Bugs and six handhelds, so that was 10 channels that we could easily output into their system. Plus the channels that they had, we were able to pull off the show. It plugs right into here, and you just turn it on. You have a mute function in the middle right here, or right there, and [JUAN DIES DEMONSTRATES USE OF GUITAR BUG].

So, you know of course I can just walk around and find another instrument and plug it in [JUAN DIES PLUGS THE GUITAR BUG TO ANOTHER INSTRUMENT].
