AKG talks about its Micro Mic series
AKG's Micro Mic series are built as a replacement series for older AKG products, but with new hardware and new configurations. That new hardware includes a special attachment to help with miking drums; another model has a clamp for varying drumkit rim sizes.

The Micro Mic series also has an adapter plate made to accomodate the bottom of AKG 40 and 400 series wireless mics so you can connect the mic right to the transmitter. This is good for drums, horns, and wind instruments where you need to affix the mic and transmitter to a stand. Check out the Winter NAMM 2007 Gearwire video to learn all about the AKG Micro Mic series.

More info is at the AKG official site.

SPEAKER: The next product we'll take a look at is the new Micro Mic Series products. These products basically take the place of existing products in the AKG product line but with basically some new hardware and new configurations mechanically on how we get these microphones actually function in the field.

The most basic function is to mechanically attach a piece that the mic slips down into if you're mic'ing a drum, and you can see that here even though the parts are dark; it might be a little hard to see.

Another one of the products here, the C 518, comes with a unique clamp, very easy to actuate, and it will attach to drums with varying sizes of rims, and it's easy -- basically easy to understand and easy to use.

One of the innovations with this particular series of Micro Mics is we have included in the box with the units an adapter plate that attaches to the bottom of our 40 Series and 400 Series wireless. So, once you attach the adapter plate, you can take your Micro Mic then and snap it right on to the transmitter. At that point, you have yourself a wireless drum mic or a wireless mic for a horn, and basically a multi-use type product with the adapter that's included in the box.

In addition in this line, we've introduced a couple of new headsets. The headsets are unique in that they're very adjustable, they're very lightweight. You can take the gooseneck part of the microphone system and vary the length, so if a young person happens to be using this mic, they can shorten the gooseneck so it's very flexible in that way. You can take the piece that the gooseneck clips in to and put it on either side of the headset, so that gives people --There are people that like to use it on the left side or the right side. This product accommodates that. And, like I said, it is very lightweight and comfortable on your head.

We have two versions of the headset: The 520 for those performers who are going to be singing, doing vocal work with the headset. The 555 is more oriented towards speech.
