Alesis PalmTrack: Handheld 24-Bit SD Recorder Introduced At NAMM

January 16, 2010
Alesis PalmTrack handheld SD recorder records stereo or surround audio directly to an SD or SDHC card.

For less than $200, you can get the new Alesis PalmTrack handheld SD recorder ($199 MSRP, $149 Street). The pocket-sized, very portable PalmTrack records stereo or surround audio directly to an SD or SDHC card (up to 16 GB), letting you capture live sound just about anywhere without any cables.

Recording with the PalmTrack is easy and flexible, notes Alesis, and to get started, you simply insert the included batteries and SD card and press record. While recording, you can monitor with headphones and watch the real-time level meters, or switch on Auto Mic Gain and let the PalmTrack drive itself. The recorder has a built-in speaker, mini USB jack, red Record light, four microphones housed in a protective grille, and more.

The PalmTrack's four microphones can be used in different ways; select two mics for a stereo pickup pattern, four mics for 360-degree pickup pattern, or plug in your own mic or any line-level source into the PalmTrack’s 1/8-inch mic input. Choose between 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz sample rates, select an MP3 bit-rate from 64 kbps to 320 kbps for maximum recording time, or choose uncompressed 16-bit or 24-bit WAV for broadcast-quality recording.

What's more, the recorder offers onboard processing, including bass compensation for reducing the proximity effect in close-miked situations, as well as Chorus, Pitch Shift, Delay, and Reverb settings for adding effects during playback. The recorder also features an MP3 voice-cancelling mode that removes vocals from MP3 files.

The PalmTrack has a bright display and is powered by two AA batteries (included) or optional power adapter. Alesis will be shipping the PalmTrack in February, 2010.

palm track, the flexible recorder

By: satheesh nair,India

I have purchased a palm track in March and have been using for two months,i find it very handy and recorded so many outdoor events for radio presentation.the catching power of its builtin mic is amazing. The clarity of line in recordingis tremendous. One thing I have to point out is the lack of a 3v adapter.I find it difficult to manage with the bateries for prolonged recording since the palmtrack doesn't charge through usb.

Its not really the winner, the Tascam DR2d that i just purchased is capable of the same thing but offers 96k records from on-board mic's and line input at the same time (separate stereo files). I personally think the Tascam comes out on top this year!
