Alesis TransActive Drummer: The Practice Amp For Your TransActual Drummer

April 09, 2009
Alesis TransActive Drummer

Don't let the name fool you; the Alesis TransActive Drummer isn't just for electronic kits. It handles keys with the greatest of ease, and to jam along with your favorite tracks, just plug in your iPod. Drummers even get a trial subscription for 10 free drumless songs from minusdrums.com to go along with the amp purchase.

In addition to its two-way speaker, the TransActive Drummer boasts two inputs, stereo outputs and, of course, an iPod dock. You can connect an electronic kit and an auxiliary source simultaneously to play along with recorded material or just jam over your favorite tunes.

The TransActive Drummer front panel provides volume and three-band EQ. It has a separate level control for your iPod and a headphone jack for nocturnal practice in case you prefer the TransActive Drummer's features over plugging directly into your brain.

In terms of speakers, the TransActive Drummer is equipped with what Alesis describes as a "large" 10-inch woofer, but I imagine it's the same size as a small 10-inch woofer. If 50W of power isn't enough for you, link two of these bad boys together for a 100-watt system.

Lastly, transporting this amp is made easier by its pro-grade, recessed handles. You'll be able to mobilize it anywhere in the world, and thanks to a switchable power supply, won't have to worry about voltages and other such nonsense. You didn't learn how to hit things with sticks in crazy patterns to deal with electrical engineering.
