Experimental Sound Studio: "On (Circuit) Bended Knee" By Toys II Men
Alex Inglizian shows us one of his more advanced bent toys -- it's a box with buttons abound that can play everything from animal noises to simple melodies, and two rotary knobs expand its pitch capabilities even more. Alex shows us that if you remember which buttons correspond to which sounds, you can really use this piece as a melodic instrument.

ALEX INGLIZIAN: My name is Alez Inglizian, and I'm the studio assistant here at the Experimental Sound Studio, and I helped out [PH] Steve organize this event.

This one's fun because it's more playable with this button pad, so this -- the original toy that this was just one of these toys that had like a bunch of different sound effects on it, so I've got animal sounds [ALEX TRIGGERS ANIMAL SOUND EFFECTS], and they're all -- I can pitch them as well [ALEX PITCHES ANIMAL SOUND EFFECTS]. There's also vehicle noises [ALEX TRIGGERS VEHICLE NOISES] and tool noises [ALEX TRIGGERS TOOL NOISES], and then there's also melodies.[ALEX PLAYS SOME MELODIES].

Well, there's these four positions on this rotary switch so I just kind of have it memorized, but I love this because I could play a drum beat and actually play this as a keyboard with rhythm along or something...

...and then I can also run this through the [SOUNDS LIKE] gate sequencer as well.
[ALEX DEMONSTRATES HIS DEVICE AND GATE SEQUENCER]
I don't know if you can hear that. It's getting really noisy in this room.
