Just because a DJ is a beginner doesn't necessarily mean they're willing to skimp on quality. At least, that's what Allen & Heath are banking on with their new Xone:22 DJ Mixer. It features the same build quality and connective components as the more feature-laden Xone mixers, but with in a simple, two-channel configuration.

While no prices are yet listed, Allen & Heath promises that the Xone:22 will be an "entry level" mixer. The X:22 features 2 stereo channels with dual phono / line inputs; for additional inputs, the phonos can be configured to line if no RIAA sources are in use. The "effects" on the X:22 are basic: a "lite" version of Allen & Heath's Voltage Control Filter (VCF) system offering Low-Pass and High-Pass filters, frequency sweep and "mild to wild" resonance control, as well as a 3-band total kill EQ. If you'd like to add your own effects, a "soft-switchable" effects loop is available, something not found on most entry-level DJ mixers. Other controls include a crossfader curve control switch, and master volume; the maximum output level is a generous +25dBu.

Another nice feature not typical in this price range are balanced XLR jacks, one for the mix input and two for the main mix output. You'll also get more monitoring options on the Xone:22 than with comparable mixers, including a booth output with its own volume control, a cue mix control, and ‘cue-to-master’ switch to preview the master output.

The Xone:22, as you'll notice, sports a look that's just about as smart as its internal design. The 10-segment LED meters for channel inputs contrast nicely with the matte black finish and UV sensitive ink screen; it looks like a fully professional piece of gear. Now the only way the club will know you're a neophyte is by listening to your terrible mixing skills. . . and nobody listens to music anymore!
