Alvarez Fusion Acoustic Electric: Owen Starts To Lose It At NAMM
Sometimes it's easy to get ignored at NAMM; even a publication as fabled as Gearwire has to hunt and gether information all by its lonesome, from time to time. Good thing we've all been trained in the dark divination arts of ancient druid luthiers. The chambered (?) bodies of the new Alvarez Fusion series acoustic electrics cannot hide their inner truths from one so skilled as Owen O'Malley.
A sample transcript of the master at work:
OWEN: Knock knock, who's there?
ALVAREZ FUSION: A chambered mahogany body, probably.
OWEN: OK, I "probably" believe you.
OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. I'm Owen O'Malley, and we're at the Alvarez booth at Winter NAMM 2009 in Anaheim. We're taking a look at the new Alvarez Fusion Series. It's the newest addition to the Alvarez family. It's a chambered solid-body acoustic guitar. It's kind of like the Chet Atkins SST that Dave Matthews popularized. It's got a chambered mahogany body. This one's got a quilted maple top. It's got a mahogany back. It's got this Fishman Aura preamp, and it looks like these are standard on all these guitars. Pretty nice pre's. There's a battery compartment right back there, and just a 1/4" out. No idea what the MAP price is or the availability of this guitar. We will try and find out for you, but it looks like it comes in a couple of different finishes. There's this black one here which is real nice looking; looks even more like the Chet Atkins. This one's has a plain maple top as opposed to the quilted maple top.
[OWEN SOLOING WITH 12-STRING GUITAR]
This one's a little bit deeper bodied. It feels like a -- feels like it's actually like a thin line with no f-holes but no -- I can't tell if it's chambered or not; 12-string version.
Yeah, here you go: Alvarez Fusion. Gearwire.Com.
[OWEN TAPS ON GUITAR'S BODY]
WOMAN: Is that kind of like listening to the ocean?
OWEN O'MALLEY: I can hear the future.
