IK Multimedia Amplitube LE

Back in the day, DJ Puzzle / Jason Donnelly introduced you to the Digidesign MBox 2 Pro out of the regular box. In this video, Donnelly tears through the factory bundle like hot dogs at an eating competition. The first factory bundle plugin that Jason takes a look at is Amplitube LE.

JASON DONNELLY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. This is Jason Donnelly. And in a previous segment, I showed you the Mbox 2 Pro, and Mbox 2 Pro comes with Digidesign's Pro Tools LE 7. This is actually the factory bundle which means for a little bit more, you get an additional set of plugins. Unfortunately, they are the LE, kind of entry-level version of the plugin to kind of give you a taste. As the customer, you get a taste of how the plugin works and what it does, and eventually, if you like it, you pay for the upgrade and get the full version.

So, I have Pro Tools LE 7 on my Apple here. I select new session then save it to the desktop just so I can title it anything because I really want to keep it after this video. So, here's what we're going to do: Make sure under view, you have your edit window, select all and your sends, and your mix window to all, and now you have access to your sends A through E and F through J. Go to Track>New and create a mono audio track. Now, are your track for recording by pressing the little "R" button there, and that will light up right.

To the right you'll see under sends -- oh, I'm sorry -- actually under Inserts, we're going to use the plugin Amplitube LE. So again, that's under Inserts. You click the little up and down arrow here and you can select the plugin that you'd like to use; in this case, we're going to use Amplitube LE.

Now, I'll plug my guitar into the MBox directly in [JASON PLUGS IN HIS GUITAR INTO MBOX 2]. The guitar is being plugged into input 1, set our gain, we'll set it to DI input, there's mic and DI, and the I'm going to press the pad button in so it's not a super hot signal.

[JASON CHECKS GAIN LEVEL] I'm going to check your gain so that it's just about to clip. [JASON CHECKS GAIN LEVEL] Yeah, see we don't want that.

Okay. So if you see the light turn red, you know it's clipping [JASON CHECKS GAIN LEVEL]. It'll give us a little headroom there so I'll turn it down just to touch, and now our guitar is ready to go. Let's take a closer look at Amplitube.

So here's a close-up on Amplitube, and this is the LE version, and I've got it set to a preset here. We've got a few different presets that come with it. Here's one called DLY Crunchy Pad. Let's see what that sounds like.

[JASON PLAYS SOME RIFFS AND LICKS]

So, this is a couple of presets and that's what the Amplitube LE can do for you when you get the Factory Bundle of MBox 2 Pro.

So to recap, I plugged the guitar directly into the MBox using Pro Tool LE and the factory bundle Amplitube LE as a realtime plugin, an RTAS plugin in Pro Tools, and we got a pretty great sound out of it. Amplitube is cool. It's a guitar amp and effects emulator and it does a pretty good job. So that was the Amplitube LE which comes bundled with the MBox 2 Pro.
