API 527 Compressor Attacks, Thrusts, And Releases

October 10, 2009
API 527 single-channel compressor module is based on the 225l discrete channel compressor.

Announced at AES yesterday, the API 527 compressor ($995) is a single-channel module based on the company's 225L discrete channel compressor.

The compressor has comprehensive controls for variable attack, release, ratio, and output gain. In addition, the patented "Thrust" circuit plays a starring role in the 527, as it did in the 2500 stereo bus compressor, but is not explained by API. Why throw in a fun name like that and not describe it? Perhaps Metasonix could have made better use of the aforementioned circuit. But moving onward, the unit also features a 10-segment LED meter that is switchable between gain reduction and output level.

According to API, the 527 is the ideal complement to the vintage 525 compressor.
