17th Annual Rebeats Chicago Drum Show: Orlich Glass Drums
PAUL SCHMIDT: Hey, I'm Paul Schmidt. I'm here with the Art of Music, it's my company, asdn we're here with Orlich Glass Drums. It's our first thing we’ve been offering. I got into the drum thing, I did the first History of the Ludwig Drum Company book, and was always interested in innovation and design, and I thought John's drums are really beautiful aesthetically, and when I got to hear them musically, they had a beautiful attack, sort of like a metal shelled drum but they had the complexity and depth of more like a wood shell drum, but they still have their own kind of sound. So, as I kind of got to know them, I got enthused about them, so we made up some short run series of snare drums with custom etching. There are three different patterns. We've got this one that's called Deco Motion Pattern. The kit was made for the show. Then we got a couple of other snare drums, Mayan Cadence and Winged Messenger. We're making 25 of each and there we go. I think they're lovely drums and they sound as good as they look. Few people have them, not a whole lot. Alan White in Yes has a kit. I think Prince has a couple of drums, a few other people. ArtOfMusicInstruments.Com: Go to the website and take a peek at them.
