Audio-Technica AT4047MP: More Is More
Users who were somewhat satisfied with the Audio-Technica AT4047/SV, after some time of use, felt that they needed more out of it. This has resulted in requests for Audio-Technica to develop and deliver a multi-pattern version of the AT4047. Audio-Technica answers these request in the form of Audio-Technica AT4047MP.
The AT4047MP, as stated above, is a side-address externally polarized (DC bias) condenser microphone with multiple polar patterns. It is also one of Audio-Technica’s latest additions to the expanding 40 Series microphones. The AT4047MP has three selectable polar patterns (omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-of-eight) useful for various mic’ing situations. It also features a vintage sound that has low self noise, wide dynamic range, and high SPL capability.
A three-pin XLRM-type connector forms the AT4047MP’s output port. The AT4047MP requires a 48-V phantom power source for operation and is also equipped with a switchable 10-dB pad for either a flat response or low-frequency roll-off with its integral 80-Hz high-pass filter. This microphone is encased in a rugged housing, and element stability and optimal sensitivity is provided by a precision-machined nickel-plated brass acoustic element baffle. Precise polar pattern definition is handled by a dual-diaphragm capsule. The symmetrical housing assembly’s open acoustical environment reduces unwanted internal reflections.
With design that exhibits both precision and sensitivity as well as its multiple polar patterns, the Audio-Technica AT4047MP is useful for a diverse number of needs such as focused recording for vocals, recordings with multiple acoustic instruments with preserved natural reverberation from various environments, and advanced stereo mic’ing techniques courtesy of its figure-of-eight option. This new and versatile condenser microphone will soon hit the stores by November 2009 with an MSRP of 1,055.00 USD.
