Audix M1255: Audix Squeezes Out Another Condensed Condenser

June 17, 2008
Audix M1255 Released

Audix grows their Micros series with the addition of their new M1255. As part of the Micros series, the M1255 is one of the world's tiniest condenser microphones, which is pretty impressive considering that it comes with an integrated preamp and a detachable cable.

The M1255 pays rent on stylishly machined brass housing, and alongside its modular threaded capsule, the M1255 can troop it out on the road or relax in the comforts of your studio. It has a smooth frequency response from 80 Hz to 20 kHz, a 12 mm gold vapor diaphragm, four selectable capsules and complete invulnerability to RF interference from cell phones and the like.

Gene Houck, the National Sales Manager from Audix, offered his take:

“The M1255 was developed in response to demands from pro audio installers who specialize in digitally controlled audio systems for teleconferencing, like Nexia from Biamp for example. These systems will typically require anywhere from eight to 32 microphones strategically placed overhead, hanging from the ceiling.”

"Since the microphones are at a great distance from the sound source (approximately six to seven feet), the real challenge is being able to get enough gain between the microphone and the mixer to do the job adequately. The M1255 provides a great solution because it offers an additional 10 - 12 dB of output over other competitive products in this category, while at the same time keeping the noise at floor level an astonishing 21 dB (A weighted),”

While the M1255 works adeptly as a hanging overhead mic, it is just as comfortable as a table microphone for meetings and conferences. It comes in matte black or white and includes a 25' cable, a hanging mic clip, a mic stand adapter, an external windscreen and a carry pouch.
