Avantone Active MixCubes: Realist Reference Monitors
Avantone's Active MixCubes, active recording / mixdown monitors designed to provide high quality, mini-reference monitoring capabilities that make a welcome addition to the studio or travel from studio to studio for remote monitoring.
The MixCubes are designed to complement much larger monitoring systems. It provides a more accurate listen in comparison to televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, and other systems where the bass response is weak sauce. As full range drivers without crossovers, they also are free of tonal anomalies sometimes caused by crossovers.
Over twelve months of research was spent comparing the MixCubes and tweaking the voicing. More time was also spent on the design, constructed of non-layered, high rigidity MDF board, famous for its low-resonance characteristics. Avantone also throws in radiused edges, a Polyurethane high gloss "Butter-Cream" finish is also applied. "Butter-Cream" is in quotes because the finish isn't actually made out of butter or cream, so people don't try to eat their reference monitors.
The drivers are designed with custom designed paper cones. Avantone uses what they consider the finest New Zealand pulp material blended with mica fibers for cones infused with the magic of the wizard Gandalf. And other mentionable features:
- SYSTEM TYPE: Active [Self-Powered] shielded full-range stereo pair
- FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 90Hz-17,000Hz [Accessible musical range]
