Axes & Axles: The Art Of Building Cars And Guitars Exhibit: Rock Memorabilia, Rock Stars' Personal Cars And Guitars, And More

August 26, 2010
Axes & Axles: The Art of Building Cars and Guitars exhibition will celebrate the Fender Telecaster, cars, and guitars.

Join in on the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Fender Telecaster with Axes & Axles: The Art of Building Cars and Guitars -- a new exhibit devoted to the connection between guitars (axes) and cars (axles).

The ongoing exhibition will be on view at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, presented by Automobile of Southern California, from September 4, 2010 through June 30, 2011. This exhibit will feature a large collection of rare photographs, rock memorabilia, and personal cars and guitars from rock stars such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Michael Anthony, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Billy F Gibbons, and many others.

As part of the 60th Anniversary of the Fender Telecaster guitar, the Axes & Axles exhibit will also illustrate the history of Fender and celebrate the Telecaster guitar.

Tony Thacker, the museum's director, comments, "Guitars and cars have a great deal in common: both are means of expression, both generate fanatical fans, and both offer a stairway to freedom. This new exhibit will showcase the amazing connection of guitars and hot rod building."

Here is a preview of some of the celebrity guitarists and car designers in the exhibit:

  • Michael Anthony, former bassist for the rock band Van Halen
  • Jeff Beck, English rock guitarist
  • Eric Clapton, English blues-rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and composer
  • Chip Foose, celebrity automotive designer
  • Billy F Gibbons, bearded extraordinaire and guitarist of ZZ Top
  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd, blues / rock guitarist
  • Brian Setzer, American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and actor
  • Jimmie Vaughan, American blues guitarist and singer
  • SO-CAL Speed Shop, leaders in automotive design

In addition to the exhibition, there will be a number of educational programs to participate in, including guitar demonstrations and a panel discussion with hot rod builders and musicians.

The exhibit will open in conjunction with the 2010 Los Angeles County Fair on September 4th. Museum admission is $1 with paid L.A. County Fair admission.

For those who visit the museum separately from the Fair, admission pricing is as follows: Current NHRA members are admitted free and Auto Club members get a $2 discount. Admission for non-members is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 60 and older, $6 for juniors aged 6 through 15, and free for children under the age of 5. The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum is located at Fairplex Gate 1, 1101 W. McKinley Ave. in Pomona, California.

If anyone told me there was a connection between cars and guitars, I would have laughed in his face. The idea of finding a correlation between the four wheels and the six strings the artist preferred is great, I'm sorry I didn't get to the show.

Clearly a remarkable and very manly exhibit. These types of events always deliver a powerful impact on the audience. Mixing cars, guitars and rock superstars is a great recipe for an outstanding show. Eric Clapton alone is half the reason for taking part at the Axes & Axles exhibit.

I don't really pay any attention to events but this one, Axes & Axles really caught my eye, especially being in my town.
I've always been a very big fan of ZZ Top, and also almost everyone at my company. It was a great experience and I'm looking forward to the next anniversary of the Fender Telecaster

I must confess that up until last week, I have yet listen to a CD of my favorite band in the car. The stereo I have is only matching audio CD and I got used to listen to the radio. Now that I have more time, I even get to observe how awesome is the entire car`s audio tool gear. The sound comes crystal clear and I like that.
