Ernie Ball Family Reserve John Petrucci: Honorary Balls At Summer NAMM 2008
We broke into the Ball Family Reserve at Summer NAMM 2008 where we saw, among some other very mouthwatering guitars, the John Petrucci edition. This Koa topped, Mahogany beauty is just the tip of the iceberg here. Gold finishes and intricate craftsmanship make for the kind of Balls you just don't want to put down!
SPEAKER: We got here is a John Petrucci Ball Family Reserve. Unlike the normal Ball Family Reserve, this has got a Koa top on it. Normally we put a Mahogany tone block underneath that top. This is all Mahogany, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, and gold hardware.
BILL HOLLAND: And this is an active pickup and that [INDISCERNIBLE] something for the piezo.
SPEAKER: That's for the piezo. It comes equipped with piezo, the JP inlay, the matching headstock, and an ebony fretboard.
We've got a cool gold color here. Gold hardware. The first time we've actually done mini-humbuckers on a guitar. And once again, it's one of the Ball Family Reserves, something that we made for an artist that normally just the artist would have access to but since we're going to set up the tools to make it, might as well make more than one.
Once again, we got another Ball Family Reserve. This one is the Axis. It's got the Mahogany tone block underneath the pickups there. It goes from the neck joint down the bridge. That increases sustain and gives it a little bit more punch. It doesn't make it too heavy though. This is just a little spot of Mahogany. The rest is still Basswood body, just like we're used to, matching headstock. It's a beautiful fretboard on this one.
Introducing the Sterling. Look at the top on that one. Beautiful. It's going to be available with single humbucker, a humbucker with a single coil like this, or two humbuckers. It features a mahogany tone block like the other ones. The premium, premium Maple top, I cannot emphasize that enough, and they come -- they'll come with custom G&G cases.
We've got a bunch of new colors. Every color up here that you're looking at is new. We really don't have names for them yet. That's how new they are.
This one right here is probably my favorite. [SPEAKER FLASHES ONE OF THE THE BALL FAMILY RESERVE BASSES]
So kids, be sure to look for these in you nearest Music Man dealer. They'll be hitting the streets in September.
