Barge Concepts DB-3: Give Your Tone A Booster Shot

January 28, 2008
Barge Concepts DB-3

Barge Concepts' DB-3 is a new high accuracy, linear amplifier with two independent channels that each have individual gain and volume controls and an effects loop between the two channels. Both channels also have high input impedance ins and low output impedance outs as well as true bypass.

The DB-3's channel duo can be directly cascaded, or you can use the effects loop to separate the channels and place a boost or a buffer at two points in the signal chain. When the channels are cascaded, four different volume levels are attainable. The effects loop is set up like an amp's effects loop. When there are no pedals in the loop, the output of Channel 1 goes directly into the input of Channel 2. When pedals are in the loop, the output of Channel 1 is sent to the pedals and then through the pedals to Channel 2's input. The send output from there is always active, which is perfect to go into your tuner or a second amplifier.

The DB-3 can also be used as an overdrive / distortion pedal at any output volume. When the cascaded gain stages and Master Volume are used in combination, the DB-3 clips sharply yet cleanly and symmetrically with no phase inversion or any undesired sounds. However, the DB-3's main purpose is to act as a boost that does as little as possible to alter the original signal aside from making it louder.

Other features include:

  • 27+ dB of gain per channel, 54+ dB cascaded.
  • High impedance inputs.
  • Flat frequency response across the full audible spectrum, ideal for traditional electric as well as bass and baritone guitars.
  • Compact, aluminum Hammond 1590BB-sized enclosure with all jacks North-mounted.
  • 3PDT True Bypass switching.
  • LED indicators for Active AND Bypass on each channel.
  • Low noise Burr Brown op amps.
  • 1% Metal Film Resistors.
  • High quality film and sealed Tantalum capacitors for improved signal fidelity.
  • Switchcraft jacks.
  • Alpha pots.
  • Clean interior layout using 4 layer circuit board for low noise and clean power distribution.
  • Industry standard 9V DC power jack, supporting supply voltages up to 18V
  • Dynamic bias circuit for maximized headroom with power supplies from 6V to 18V
  • Comes with quality 9V battery pre-installed.

thanks for ruining the end of Gone In 60 Seconds for me.

I really don't think that

I really don't think that ending can be ruined. Nicolas Cage, Christopher Eccleston, and Delroy Lindo aced that scene.

If anything, you should want to see it more now.
