Warwick Streamer Stage II, Peavey T-Max And Avalon Cabinets--The Bass Gear Of Voodoo Jets New Bassist
The Voodoo Jets recently added bassist Clint Amereno to their lineup. Amereno has played live with 12 Stones, touring extensively with the band. Voodoo Jets are unique in power pop in that they use no guitars, only keyboards. The band's center of gravity is classically trained Micah Sheveloff. Amereno, who lives in Connecticut, joins the Boston power-pop outfit in the midst of numerous changes (singing duties for one--Sheveloff is taking over as lead singer). Amereno took the time to talk about the gear he uses.
He is sponsored by and uses Warwick basses. The main basses he uses are the Warwick Streamer Stage II--a four string and five string model.
"They are my favorite of all the Warwicks," says Amereno. "They have a great sound--a very unique sound. I always wanted a Stage II since I started playing."
German-based Warwick's Streamer Stage II is made of African afzelia wood and has an arched top and a recessed back. The necks of these basses are perfectly balanced as well.
When it comes to his rig Amereno uses a Peavy T-max head with Avatar cabinets--a 1/12 with a horn and a 15.
"I have used SWR and other brands," says Amereno. "When on tour with 12 Stones I used Peavey and they are great for the money. I never had a problem. Its reliable and sounds good."
When it comes to the cabinets it comes down to two things for Amereno--sound and portability.
"I like the portability of the speaker cabinets," says Amereno. "They are 18 inch cubes, light weight but they really fill the room. They have the punch and the low-end."
Amereno doesn't use a lot of effects on his bass but he has used the Boss ME-50 Multi Effects Processor for envelope and a little compression. He is looking to get more into effects and pedals. While on tour with 12 Stones Amereno did use a Sennheiser EW372 wireless set up.
"It has great frequency response and is very reliable onstage," he says. " We were playing some big stages and it never cut out."
