BBE Mind Bender: The Viewer Of This Demo Shall Indemnify Gearwire From Any Neurological Trauma Sustained Forthwith
In keeping with the other polyglot effects from BBE -- ingenious amalgams of two classic effects, housed in a single, small footprint stompbox -- the BBE Mind Bender sleeps emulations of the Way Huge Blue Hippo chorus and the Boss VB-2 pitchbender Irish-style.
Resident interval-slinger (and Irish-stereotype expert) Owen O'Malley finds the BBE stompbox underfoot (like so many Celtic offspring) and examines its dual-faceted appeal.

OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. I'm Owen O'Malley. This is the BBE Mind Bender. BBE Mind Bender! The BBE Mind Bender is a combination vibrato/chorus. Like a lot of the other BBE effects pedals, it's a dual effect so you can switch between the two effects with this little switch right here, and it's a true hard-wired bypass using this switch right here. It's an al analog effect. It models two sort of hard to come by classic effects: the Boss VB-2, which is the vibrato-bender, the pitch bender, and the Way Huge Electronics Blue Hippo, which is an analog chorus.
This was designed in conjuction with Will Ray. Will Ray is one of the three guitarists in the Hellecasters. You can see there's a little WR logo right at the bottom here, and sort of his design input as a session guitarist and all-around pretty rad guitarists was used in designing this pedal. It's a mono output pedal, single input, runs off a 9-volt battery, it's a very handy little compartment right here, comes with a 9-volt, or you can run it off 9-volt wall wart power. Let's plug it in and give it a listen.
Okay, so we've got our BBE Mind Bender hooked up. We are running through a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. We're playing through a guitar that's equipped with Seymour Duncan Alnico II humbuckers. Let's just listen to our clean tone.

Okay. Let's turn our effect on. As you can see, with this LED illuminated, that means that we are engaging the chorus side of this effect. This LED which turns on when the effect is on, also displays the speed of the effect.

If we turn the speed up, you can see the blinking starts getting faster and the effect gets more intense.

Almost starting a little bit like a Univibe or a rotary speaker. If we turn the depth up even halfway, the detuning becomes pretty intense.

Let's move over to the vibrato side of things. Click here to switch over to the vibrato effect...,

...basically eliminating the chorusing and now it's just a modulated detune effect.
Let's turn the depth down and the speed up.

That was the BBE Mind Bender. I'm Owen O'Malley, you've been watching Gearwire.Com, and you will continue to watch Gearwire.Com.
