Behringer Vintage Time Machine VM1: The Frugal Route Through The Space-Time Continuum

November 07, 2008
Behringer Vintage Time Machine VM1

When I heard the news that Behringer was introducing a product called the Vintage Time Machine VM1, my imagination ran wild. If Behringer were to invent an actual time machine, I bet it would cost about fifty bucks, but it'd probably blow a fuse or something mid-travel, and you'd be stuck in the space-time fabric forever.

Luckily, Behringer isn't trying to find a cost-effective way to enable time travel. The VM1 is just a combination of some classic effects that have always been integral to guitar tone since the days when everyone was vintage but didn't know it. The VM1 focuses on chorus, vibrato and delay.

That delay emulates vintage tape delay, providing up to 550 ms of analog echo. The effects as a whole are set up to emulate the warm sounds of the 1970s without having to use actual thirty year old gear. Of course, nothing will beat the original, but it'll be interesting to see how the VM1 is pulled off.
