Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer Reviewed: Our Guest Blogger Scott Wilcox Thinks That It's G-r-r-r-r-reat!
One word: great! I had the prior, white-chassis version -- the UB 802 -- and while the mic pre's sounded fabulous on that, the EQ and build-quality were crappola (by that I mean the bass guitar sounded hollow even with the bass EQ cranked, the bass dynamics were lost, and the darn power supply kept getting (internally) disconnected, causing a GAWDAWFUL hum. . . then the outputs stopped working after a week!)
Thankfully, the new Xenyx series suffers from none of that, and the EQ is awesome. According to the official specs @ Behringer's website, "Our neo-classic 'British EQ' brings back the warmth and musicality of those '60s and '70s mega-console desks that made music history." I was skeptical, as the treble and bass are just shelving-EQ-types, with a knee at 80Hz and 12kHz, +-15dB, BUT they must have changed the shape of the curve or something, because the bass just sounds so much better. Cranked, the bass knob really brings-out that Metal palm-muting stuff. 10 out of 10.
Other gear I'll review in the near-future is the Behringer DR100 Reverb Stompbox, the Danelectro Dan-Echo Stompbox, and a Monte Allums modified Boss Metal Zone.
