Belkin IPod 4-Track?

January 07, 2007
It's Sunday, so it's tougher to check facts. We could be looking at a Photoshop prank here, or we could be looking at an important evolution in portable multitrack recording, from a name not exactly well-associated with multitrack audio. Via Gizomodo, we give you the Belkin TuneStudio, a mashup of an iPod with the Tascam 424 Portastudio of old:

The immediate questions:

  • Has Belkin, mainly noted for their wireless IP router products ever developed anything in an audio device before this?
  • What in the world is that orange cavity?
  • Does a 4-channel mixer for iPods mean more to a musician or to a podcaster?
  • Belkin?!?

Rob Warmowski is an Editor for Gearwire. Belkin?!??!

As an artist who records, I am looking forward to this machine. I wouldn't need to dwell on the orange cavity or if Belkin has ever done 4 track audio or any audio for that matter. Usually the 4 track sound is not a professional level sound anyway and as long as it is durable, has a sound quality that is in a good range with moderate depth, plus no clickking or trashy noise symptoms it will be successful I believe. It's a great idea because I have not found enough music to put on my 30gig ipod, it is plain too much work and as new ideas for my music will arise I can use this machine without reserve. http://johnpaul3.tv
