Beyerdynamic RM 510: First-Ever Wireless Ribbon Mic For Live Vocals
At the upcoming AES convention, Beyerdynamic will be making its official debut of the RM 510, also known as the world’s first wireless ribbon microphone for live vocals. According to the manufacturer, the RM 510 interchangeable ribbon capsule for Beyerdynamic OPUS 900 and OPUS 600 wireless systems is a giant leap forward in ribbon technology and brings a new dimension to live vocal performances.
The RM 510 capsule design features a light, 3 micrometer thick aluminum ribbon said to deliver spectacular frequency response and exceptional transient behavior. Likewise, sound channeling technology provides the capsule with its cardioid polar pattern, making the RM 510 ribbon capsule ideal for use onstage with wireless microphone systems. The capsule’s treble resonator delivers high-frequency reproduction and also serves to protect against "plosives," while a subtle attenuation in the 6.5 kHz range suppresses sibilant sounds and supports the balanced and unobtrusive sound of the RM 510.
Beyerdynamic's new RM 510 borrows some of its features from the M 500 ribbon microphone that was popular during the 1970s and 1980s. The wireless ribbon mic sports an elegant housing design, stainless steel mesh basket with multilayer metal gauze, and a delicate yet rugged build that makes it reliable for stage use. Every Beyerdynamic RM 510 wireless microphone capsule is handmade in Germany.
Its detailed, coloration-free sound boasts the same treble reproduction as all other Beyerdynamic ribbon microphones, while its capsule design delivers significant rear attenuation that in turn results in feedback suppression ideal for live vocals on even the loudest of stages.
The RM 510 interchangeable ribbon microphone capsule will be available for beyerdynamic’s Opus 600 and Opus 900 wireless systems sometime during the first quarter of 2011. Beyerdynamic will be showing the new RM 510 at the 129th AES convention later this week at Booth 1230.
