Blackheart Engineering Handsome Devil: Because Satan Has Really Nice Cheekbones

Blackheart Engineering Handsome Devil

More news from Blackheart Engineering as Pyotr Belov is productively designing amps in a one-car garage in Austin, Texas. The spanking new Blackheart Handsome Devil is to the amplification world what J. Irving-Giles is to the human race -- quite possibly the most handsome of its kind on the planet.

With 15 watts of Class A, all-tube power, the Handsome Devil is more than just a great looking head on a body perfectly chiseled out of a regimen of crunches and inverted military press reps. The head comes alone for all you grim types out there or the Handsome Devil is available as a 1x12 combo.

Blackheart Engineering shoots for the classic workhorse tone of great tube-amps of the '60s. Let's go to Blackheart's Kevin Van Pamel for some insider insight:

"We truly believe that a Blackheart Engineering product may be the only lengthy and meaningful relationship you'll ever have. If you look at the statistics on marriage, you've got to agree. Well, we're not going to let you down like that. We're in it for the long haul. You come home at night and that Blackheart's going to be waiting there for you, as pretty as the day you met her and ready to cook."

Thanks, Kevin. As for specs, the Handsome Devil delivers 15 watts of RMS output power in Pentode Mode and seven in Triode Mode. Holstering a pair of 12AX7 tubes in the preamp section and a pair of EL84s in the power amp section as well as a solid-state rectifier with internal 6V - 2A rectifier tab for further modification, you could say that the Handsome Devil is armed to the teeth with weapons for your sonic assault.

The front panel controls include the rotary "chicken head" knobs for Drive, Level [Master Volume], Treble, Middle, Bass, and Presence along with flip switches for On/Off And/Or 15W/7W operation. The shiny red jewel power indicator adorns the front panel, and kids, please don't look up "chicken head" in the urban dictionary.

Blackheart Hansome Devil 15 Watt Head

By: James Casey

I initally thought that the sound just wasn't right. Then I cranked it up. This amp totally kicks ass. I've been playin' for close to 30 years and have played through many amps --- Marshall to Mesa, to Carvin (which I also love, but that's another story. I play this through a Marshall 4X12 Cabinet w/ 30 watt celestions and an Ibanez Tube King which is like the original Tube Screamer w/ a 12AX7 tube in it. The sound is PHENOMENAL! Tone out the ASS!
The only problem I have with the amp is when you turn up the presence control it causes the amp to Hiss a great deal. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone used a ISP Decimator, noise Gate, or Rocktron Hush. Do you think one of these units would help? Also, no effects loop. Do you know of any modifications that can be made to the amp, such as adding a loop, toning down the hiss etc.? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I've used a Decimator up

By: ISP Guy

I've used a Decimator up front. It definitely stops the hiss and hum when you're not actually playing, but as soon as you hit a note or touch the strings you'll still hear it. It's quite annoying tbqh. I have this problem even playing clean with my strat or tele. I bought new cables thinking this would surely solve the problem, but it didn't. Now I'm down €30 extra on cables and I still have an amp that when played at gigging or full band rehearsal levels is ridiculously buzzy. I bought it for recording with and now I don't know if I'll even be able to use it in the studio. Shame really. It's not so bad with the presence turned way down, but the tone is crap unless the presence is on at least 4/10. I don't know what to do about it. I'm kinda pissed off really.
