Blackheart Engineering Killer Ant: Fractional Tube Amp Released

January 11, 2008
Blackheart Engineering Killer Ant

Blackheart Engineering, who not too long ago kicked things off with the release of the Little Giant 5, is ready to debut some new products at NAMM. The follow up to the Little Giant 5 is the BH1H Killer Ant, a boutique-quality, fractional tube amp with a fractional price.

With a projected price of around $140, the Killer Ant boasts Class A, single-ended circuitry, delivering responsive tube amp tone at practice amp volumes. It's also a great amp for home studio recording.

To get this low volume tube tone, the Killer Ant utilizes an all-tube circuit without the high power tube output section. In its place is an all-tube power block that pumps out less than a watt.

The Killer Ant is paired up with the BH110 Killer Cab, which is a little larger than the size of your palm, unless you have freakishly large palms like Dave Grohl in the "Everlong" video. Man, that was a great video.

Kevin Van Pamel, who Blackheart describes as their marketing sleaze had this to say:

"We originally tried to design something so small you'd lose it and have to buy another one. In the process, we realized this thing sounds fantastic. Go figure."

That's why I <3 Blackheart Engineering.

This killer little amp!

By: Anonymous Coward

Craig, our sound man at church, recommended I try this little amp so I wouldn't have to keep lugging my larger amp to church, since I usually wanted to take it back home with me.
The other amp was too big for the room and I had to be louder than we wanted me to be to get "that sound."
This amp has the saturation and the tone and the drive I need without being too loud. Craig just mics it, I'm not too loud, but I still have the feel I want, and it's all just easier to control.
I'm still going to take it home though because I've been recording with it in my little back bedroom 4-track studio. I've only had it a few days but it's been working great with the pedals I've tried with it so far. It works great! Thanks, Craig, for discovering it for me and thanks, Blackheart, for coming up with it!!!
