Bogner Alchemist Makes This Pointy Guitar Smooth Like Butter

Bogner Alchemist Effects Demo

In keeping with the food theme, let me just say that Spalted Maple goes best with a dry white wine, like Pinot Blanc, and not Beaujolais, like my cretinous coworkers suggest. And clearly you pair the Spalted with a sweet peppery delay, such as that found with the Bogner sauce in this video. Urp.

Bollocks

That guy just cannot do justice to the amp he is trying to review.

Watch Bob Savage´s Bogner demos and see what I´m talking about.

This guy is a clown.

tube rattle

By: super awesome (not verified)

All i can hear is one of the tubes rattling inside the amp. I hope that is just this amp because it doesn't reflect very well on Bogner if not.

I hope it's a one-off issue, too.

You can hear that rattle in the Akai Headrush Demo, too. That wasn't the only build problem I encountered playing around with the thing. If I tapped on the clean channel's volume control, the output level would jump up and down, noticeably. Does not bode well at all.

J. IRVING-GILES: Hi. I'm J. Irving-Giles with Gearwire.Com, and I'm here with the Bogner Alchemist 212. It's a two 12" speaker combo amp with six EL6 power tubes in the class AB power section, and five 12AX7's in the preamp.

On both channels, you do get some effects sections, and the effects run on a different circuit. You have delay and you have reverb. We've got three delay types; you got a ducking delay and analog delay and a tape delay, and you've also got a repeats control which is just kind of like a feedback amount knob. You also have a tap tempo right here on the amp.

I'm back with the Bogner Alchemist, running the effects section. I've got the delay on right now with the feedback and amount at about half way.

First we're on the ducking delay on the Bogner. You'll notice that as I play, like when the signal is going, the delay repeats are going to be just kind of underneath, buried in the original signal. The original attack is going to carry out. When the playing stops and is muted, then the feedback kind of rises so you don't step on yourself too much when you're playing something continuous but it gives kind of a bit of space for when you're resting, so something like this would be an example.

Oh, and hear that sweet delay pepper in when I stop playing. All right, we'll go to the analog, a model of a typical analog delay.

[J. IRVING-GILES PLAYS A COUPLE OF RIFFS THROUGH THE BOGNER ALCHEMIST WITH ANALOG DELAY ON]

And finally it's got a tape delay, and let's give that a try and see how that sounds.
