Boss ODB-3: Dirty, I Got Your Bass Overdrive
You give me your BOSS ODB-3, and Owen plugs it in
You act like most bass overdrives sound like tin
I don't have no problem with the Boss ODB-3
But I have a little problem with not the Boss ODB-3.
Baby, this demo will take care of you
Cause you say you like clean bass lines, and I know it ain't true
Is it a good thing? Hells yeah, it is
Just turn it on with one footswitch
So this stompbox preserves your bass tone
So it'll still rattle all your bass bones
Owen won't be having none in Gearwire Studio
Cause it sounds fine with a pick or fingerstyle
Now that you've heard this bass overdrive
You won't get another OD pedal for the rest of your life
If you want your bass tone to sound distorted and beefy, you better get that ODB-3.
Aoow!
Hey, dirty, baby I got your bass overdrive. Don't you worry. I said hey, dirty, baby I got your bass overdrive.

OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. We're checking out the Bass Overdrive ODB-3, Old Dirty Bass 3, from Boss. This is a bass overdrive pedal like the name says, and it's got some pretty cool control options.
Now, the typical problem with bass overdrive is that you lose the sort of low end of your signal, and this pedal combats that in a couple of different ways. First off, there's a two band EQ with high and low shelving so we can even retain some grit here.

The high is that middle switch here.
[OWEN O'MALLEY AUDITIONING ODB-1 BASS OVERDRIVE]
That's the low EQ. Now, you can also adjust the wet/dry balance with this control right here.

So there's basically our dry tone.

Just dial in how much overdrive you want.

I like having all overdrive. That's just me. Otherwise, we got a level control here so we can balance it...

...with the clean signal, and as you can hear, you know, all the way down here, it's already kind of overpowering the clean signal, which is fine by me, and then we've got our gain control here.
[OWEN O'MALLEY AUDITIONING ODB-1 BASS OVERDRIVE]
What you can hear is a sort of boosting the clean signal even -- or rather, I'm sorry, boosting the low end even on this bass here. I've been playing with a pick. Let's just hear what it sounds like fingerstyle.

Pretty cool. It's a really grindy sort of -- it almost sounds like a fuzz as opposed to just a standard overdrive but definitely retains a lot of low end in this pedal, and, you know, a couple of different, really simple voicing options.
That is the Boss BD -- sorry, ODB-3, Old Dirty Bass 3 Bass Overdrive from Boss.
You're watching Gearwire.Com, and I am Owen O'Malley.
