Boss PS-6 Harmonist Compact Pedal: New Pitch-Shifter And Harmonizer Announced
New from Boss U.S., the PS-6 Harmonist combines four intelligent pitch-shift effects and three-voice harmony in one compact pedal. Said to provide superb sound quality, ease of use, and professional pitch effects all under one hood, the new PS-6 comes equipped with a custom-designed DSP chip for superior, smart performance.
The PS-6 Harmonist pedal offers four different effect modes: Harmony, Pitch Shifter, Detune, and the brand-new Super Bend. Effects control over the four modes is made possible with the simple four-knob interface. You probably already know what most of the effect modes do, but we will take a look at them anyway.
Super Bend creates wild three- and four-octave pitch sweeps and pedal-bending effects. According to Boss, the automatic behavior of Super Bend is adjusted easily with Shift, Rise Time, and Fall Time controls. For real-time control, you can connect an optional Boss FV-500L/H or Roland EV-5 expression pedal, and use the PS-6 Harmonist as a foot-controlled pedal-bend effect.
With the new PS-6 Harmonist pedal, you can create three-voice harmony by selecting the desired major or minor key and by turning the Shift knob to 3-Voice. That's just one example of what you can do. In Pitch Shifter mode, you can get high-quality pitch shifts over a wide, +/- two-octave range. Detune mode provides chorus-like effects, which can be used in conjunction with three-voice harmony if desired.
The PS-6 is housed in the "road-tested" Boss compact pedal chassis. Boss and Roland expect to begin shipping the new PS-6 Harmonist pedal for $241.50 (MSRP) in September of 2010. It will be here before you know it.
