BOSS TU-3 Tuning Pedal: New Features Explained By Johnny DeMarco (Video)
The now-last-generation TU-2 is one of the most -- if not the most -- ubiquitous tuning pedals in the world, so it was a big deal for BOSS to announce what's essentially the TU-2's replacement, the BOSS TU-3. Countless loyal TU-2ers' harmonious worlds have been thrown into upheaval; whole pedal boards have been subject to harsh scrutiny; indeed, guitarists' and bassists' very cores have been shaken.
So what's the deal? Should you hang onto your beloved TU-2, or should you retire the old boy in favor of the newer and flashier BOSS TU-3? We went to the BOSS boss himself, Johnny DeMarco, to help us decide. Trust us: once you watch his comprehensive video walkthru, you'll know exactly where (and on what) you stand.

Wow... NOT! A version
Wow... NOT! A version upgrade that only offers a slightly brighter display?!
All the other "new" features are pretty useless to 99% of guitar players (who the freak is tuning 6 half-steps down?!).
If you have a TU-2 it's obviously not worth the upgrade.
keeping the tu-2
well, i often tune the 6th string down to an A!
That half step feature seems like an onstage disaster waiting to happen though... imagine if it's accidentally left in that setting!
and anyone using alternate tunings should (hopefully) know what notes they're aiming for.
I'd upgrade if they included
I'd upgrade if they included a true strobe upgrade with .1 cent accuracy instead of 1 cent. Great for intonation set-up. Peterson has my money for the next upgrade.
more bells/whistles
So, they added some eye-candy...don't see an urgent need to upgrade from the TU-2. Increase the accuracy....then sure, I'd think about it.
