BTE PEQ3 Program Equalization Algorithm: Air Band Gets More Action

April 10, 2008
BTE Audio PEQ3

Fresh off of the heels of the PEQ2, BTE has announced the release of the PEQ3 Program Equalizer Algorithm. Its unique architecture features the ability to minimize phase shift while reproducing an audio square wave even during EQ.

PEQ3 also features "air band," the mixing and mastering tool that can manipulate the lowest and highest ends of the frequency spectrum without coloration. It's modeled off of rare mid 1990s EQ units and is recommended for vocal tracks.

Fast Features:

  • Extremely High Processing Efficiency
  • Supports sampling frequencies up to 384 kHz
  • Clickless parameter update
  • Proprietary topology which is optimized for low latency, low noise and high dynamic range
  • Supports both 32 bit (single precision) and 64 bit (double precision) floating-point processing
  • Clearly and concisely implemented in pure C++: portable to any platform that is supported by a C++ compiler

Getting into specs, the PEQ2 has six bands. The first four of these bands use the following center frequencies: 10 Hz (SUB), 40 Hz, 160 Hz and 650 Hz. Each of these bands is also 2.5 octaves wide. The fifth band is a high frequency shelving band with a cutoff frequency of 2.5 kHz, and the sixth and final is the highly acclaimed "air band." It's a boost only high frequency shelf with selectable cutoff frequencies of 2.5 kHz, 5 kHz, 10 kHz, 20 kHz or 40 kHz.
