British Console Equaliser Algorithm
The smooth and versatile channel equaliser modules designed for British consoles in the early 1980s have set the standard for large-format console equalisers. The BEQ5 Algorithm accurately and efficiently simulates the earlier version of these modules in the digital domain with its meticulously designed topology.
Key features of the BEQ5 include:
- Extremely
HighProcessing Efficiency. - Supports sampling frequencies up to 384 kHz.
- Clickless parameter update.
- Proprietary
topologywhich is optimized for low latency, low noise andhigh dynamic range. - Supports both 32 bit (single precision) and 64 bit (double precision)
floating-point processing. - Built-in reference-quality upsampling algorithm which can be enabled at sampling frequencies
44.1 kHz and 48 kHzto achieve bell shape symmetry at high frequencies. - Clearly and concisely implemented in pure C++: portable to any
platformthat is supported by a C++ compiler.
BEQ5 British Console Equaliser Algorithm features four overlapping bands and low pass / high pass filters which have the following specifications:
High Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope. Cutoff Frequency is continuously variable from 20Hz to 350Hz.- Low Pass Filter: 18dB per octave slope. Cutoff Frequency is continuously variable from 3kHz to 20kHz.
- Low Frequency Shelving: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 40Hz to 450Hz. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB.
- Low Mid Frequency Peaking: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 60Hz to 2.2kHz. Quality Factor(Q) is continuously variable from 0.5 to 4.5. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB.
- High Mid Frequency Peaking: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 600Hz to 20kHz. Quality Factor(Q) is continuously variable from 0.5 to 4.5. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB.
- High Frequency Shelving: Center Frequency is continuously variable from 1.5kHz to 16kHz. The amount of boost or attenuation is continuously variable from -18 dB to 18 dB.
