All next month, Cakewalk product specialists will tour across the United States to demonstrate the new Cakewalk line of V-Studio products. IK Multimedia will tag along as well, to promote its mixing and mastering suite, T-RackS 3.  

This new announcement could be that big break songwriters are looking for. The Cakewalk And Ourstage.Com "Your Music Anytime, Anyplace" Songwriting Contest gives the opportunity for both artists and fans to to go for more than 1,999.99 USD worth of prizes including some brand new laptops and audio interfaces.  

The Cakewalk-Roland partnership is still going on strong. As evidence of such, the Cakewalk UA-25EX, UA-4FX, and UA-101 have just been introduced to the market and features Roland's reliable designs.  

The April 1st introduction of the Cakewalk Sonar V-Studio 100 at MusikMesse did bring about a lot of excitement and worry, given the date it was showcased. Worries about a grand April Fools' hoax can be dismissed, as Cakewalk is now shipping the Sonar V-Studio 100 worldwide.  

With not one, not two, not even three but FOUR feature-laden components, the Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio 700 certainly has enough going on to keep you awake nights. Whether you actually do anything but play around with the fader bar is up to you, but we suspect you will.  

While being distracted by all the other awesome stuff that comes with your new SONAR V-Studio 700, you might just miss the SONAR 8 Producer's Edition stuck in there with it. That would be a sad mistake. Zak from Cakewalk reminds you that the software is definitely as exciting as the hardware.  

As part of the new Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio suite, the VS-700R already has a lot of expectations to fulfill. As it is, the VS-700R, or "rack" part of the new Cakewalk setup has a raft of I/O and a Roland-made chip that gives you access, through VST, to an Integrated Roland Fantom VS hardware synthesizer. How's that for mergers gone well?  

Falling somewhere between Sonar 8 Home Edition and Garageband in terms of sophistication, Cakewalk Music Creator 5 is designed to present a non-intimidating solution for those timid yet willing recording neophytes. A recent update makes Music Creator's GUI even more inviting, sorta like dressing a kitten up like a bunny. Speaking of which, I have some twelve-month 2009 calendars you may be interested in.  

In the interest of forwarding the field of sound recording, saxophonist Phil Hargreaves joined saxophonist Caroline Kraabel for a bi-saxophonist romp through Liverpool. They wanted to see how different environments affected the quality and perception of their recorded music, and to that end they were blowing horns everywhere from an anechoic chamber to the Mersey Tunnel.

The resulting recording could not have been achieved were it not for the handy Cakewalk SONAR 7. Hargreaves is a longtime Cakewalk user, and as an guy who started editing on reel-to-reel, you can bet he's got a much deeper appreciation of SONAR than most of you whipper-snappers.

 

The V-Studio 700 caused quite a stir last year with its exciting hardware / software integration, but the smaller version, introduced at MusikMesse 2009, might be even bigger news. The new Cakewalk Sonar V-Studio 100 is an 8-in, 6-out, 24-bit interface, plus control surface when connected to a computer, and portable digital mixer and digital recorder when it's not.  

Bill Holland might not review everything that came into Gearwire.com this year, but there are a few things that did leave a lasting impression. 2008 was a crazy year, and there's no way in hell he could have digested it all in one sitting.  

For those of you who aren't ready to upgrade from Sonar 7 or switch from your current DAW-of-choice, Cakewalk is making a fully-functional, fully-free web trial version of Sonar 8 available. Download if you dare, but don't be surprised if they get their 240% more efficient hooks in you.
