Carvin Steve Vai Legacy II: Vai Redesigns His Legacy, Bush Takes Notes

Carvin Steve Vai Legacy II

In the world of musical equipment, the term "legacy" refers to a product that was once produced, but no longer is, though the company may still provide support for that product in the form of customer service or user documentation. Well, you can now file the Carvin Legacy under "legacy," as the company prepares to unveil it's newest Legacy (not "legacy") product, the Carvin Steve Vai Legacy II. So, to recap: the Legacy II is the new Legacy, which is now legacy. . . wait, wait. . . upon further investigation, it looks like the old Legacy is not being discontinued. OK, so neither the new Legacy nor the old Legacy are legacy. Got it? Let's move on.

The newest generation of Legacy amps features a few subtle but important upgrades from the original. The main new feature of the Legacy II is the amp's three-channel operation (the Legacy is a two-channel amp) with clean, lead, and new clean-boost channels. There's also a new 25 watt output mode in addition to the original's 50 and 100 watt mode options. While each channel has it's own volume, there is now also a master volume, allowing adjustments to overall amp volume without having to worry about messing up the relative volumes of each channel.

Here's what the former Carle Place resident (LI REPRAZENT) had to say about his new namesake amp line:

"The Legacy II is a dream amp. It’s simple, versatile and the sound is creamy and warm. Finally there is an amplifier that has a Master Volume control that can raise or lower the overall sound coming out of the speakers without changing its saturation or tone. Although the sound has retained the integrity of the original Legacy, there is now an added channel that acts as a boost on the clean channel giving it a bit more hair. No need to keep dreaming, it’s here."

The remaining specifications, uhh, remain the same:

  • Volume, Bass, Mid, & Treble for Clean/Lead channel & Presence for Lead channel
  • Tone, Drive & Volume for Boost channel
  • 5 12AX7 (V1, V2, V3 Groove Tubes™) & quad EL34 matched Groove Tubes™
  • All tube design
  • Bias switch for 5881, 6L6GC or EL34
  • Cabinet voiced line output
  • 4, 8 or 16Ω speaker impedance switch Effects Loop
  • Hand crafted 7-ply poplar wood cabinet
  • Optional footswitch for selecting channels
  • 1 Year Warranty
  • Made in San Diego, California

Oh, and the price was upgraded.
