Logic, A G5, A CZ1000, Casiotone 610, And Whiskey: Essentials For Drop The Lime
Since earlier this week, I did an interview with Passions, I thought appropriate to talk with another New York based electronic act. Luca Venezia, aka Drop the Lime, has been releasing bass-heavy beats since 2003. Since then, he has put out numerous releases on Trouble & Bass records, and done a plethora of remixes.
Aside from his Grime and growling bass-heavy techno, Venezia is also working on a live project called Curses! that he will be touring with this fall. Although more unconventional than our usual interview fare, Luca gives good insight into how to operate on a budget.
What DAW do you use to sequence and record in the studio?
LOGIC Pro on a G5, and Pizza Express
Do you normally DJ when you play out, or do a live PA of your own track? Do you use Ableton?
I tend to switch it up, and treat DJ'ing with Serato like a live PA; Looping, recording audio and scratching it..
When I play a live PA its more for special occasions, big festivals etc.. thats when I use analog gear and Ableton... and Pizza Express
You have done a lot of remix work as of late. From a technical standpoint, how do you normally approach this type of work?
Drink a lot of whiskey, no water, it slows you down
Do you have any crazy gear, broken synths, or other interesting pieces of equipment you use?
Way too much broken gear, and bad shitty synths. Nothing grand. My favorites? The Casiotone 610. The arpeggiator is nuts and makes any tune into a samba classic.. the CZ1000 is pretty dope too for bass
