C. F. Martin & Co. Announce SP Lifespan Acoustic Guitar Strings For Production Guitars
Starting this week, C. F. Martin & Co., Inc. will be using Martin SP Lifespan acoustic guitar strings on production guitars. Martin Guitars with SP Lifespan Sets will be shown next month at Winter NAMM 2011.
According to the maker, Martin SP Lifespan strings with Cleartone proprietary technology provide a rich full tone with the added benefit of longer life. Guitars leaving the factory using SP Lifespan will have a special hang tag for identification at the retailer.
Relatively new, Martin SP Lifespan acoustic guitar strings were first introduced in the later part of 2010. So named for their long life and durability, the Martin SP Lifespan acoustic guitar strings are made with pure steel SP [SP is short for Superior Performance] core wire, which delivers what Martin calls the perfect combination of tensile strength and response. Bronze electroplating is added to protect and enhance the core wire, which is then complemented by the wraps that provide the strings with a full, rich tone. The company's custom wrapping techniques ensure tight tolerances to gauge and tension, according to Martin.
Martin SP Lifespan string sets are sent to Everly Music for treatment with Cleartone proprietary technology, which lends the strings thin protection that does not flake or peel from playing. What's more, this treatment protects both the wrap and core wire by repelling dirt and grime that can deaden a string. Wrap windings remain open and uncovered to permit natural vibration patterns, while the Cleartone proprietary technology preserves and protects the natural tone of the Martin SP strings.
