Chimera Synthesis bC16: A Hardware Synth Roughly The Size Of A Software Synth
Chimera Synthesis has developed a miniature patch synthesizer into casing that's about the same size as a CD with the new bC16. The Shetland Pony of hard synthesizers, as I like to call it, features analog VCO, LFO, ADSR envelope generator, VCA, VCF, noise source, and ring modulation all in this tiny package.
Key functions are controlled by sixteen color-coded potentiometers. Synthesizer sections are connected via thirty 2mm mini-banana sockets.
The bC16 runs off of two 9V batteries or an external power source. It can be used standalone or linked to an external device like a sequencer or MIDI-CV converters.
A limited amount of the bC16s will be out in January 2008. Soon to come are a low cost optical interface and Chimera Synthesis' SM16 sequencer/MIDI-CV.
