Circuit Bending 101: What To Look For- Resistors And Capacitors
Circuit Bending 101 continues with a basic overview of what items to look for while circuit bending. Although basic, this overview contains the core elements that will pertain to later experiments.
DJ Demchuk talks here about the "dos and don'ts" of basic circuit bending. With a basic chart, he explains a little about what you are looking for in a device. Resistors, capacitors, and LEDs are all explained here for the novice. For the more advanced student, stayed tuned as we get ready to start taking things apart in the coming weeks.
DAN DEMCHUK: Hi. I'm Dan Demchuk. Again, I'm at the circuit bending workshop in Paul Wall Manor.
There's all manner of things that you're going to be looking for when you're opening up these toys. Things that are -- If you're not using just the side here with all the soldered points at random, you're looking for more things that you know. And this is a nice little chart that I got from Patrick McCarthy to help me remember these things. He's got all of these rated as good things to look out for like resistors and your capacitors. These pieces here you can usually find a lot of your good bends off of.
The resistors are what you're going to be looking at for your time bends mainly, when you're going to be controlling the speed. Transistors, not really the best, and diodes you don't really want to mess with. The lights though -- the lights you can really get smoking. You can control all kinds of stuff including those with the time bend. And there's all kinds of things that you're going to want to do. Like I said, while editing some of these in here, there's variable resistors that we can use to control a lot of these speeds just by even the light that you're giving it. We've got potentiometers and toggle switches to install, and there's just a little bit of information in here on how you're going to be doing your setup.
