Community Professional Loudspeakers VLF218 Subwoofer Re-Introduced

January 11, 2011
Community Professional Loudspeakers announced the updated VLF218 subwoofer for Winter NAMM 2011.

For the VLF Series of subwoofers, Community Professional Loudspeakers introduced an updated version of the VLF218 subwoofer. The revamped unit will be on display at Winter NAMM 2011 (Booth# 6940); visitors at the show will be able to hear the VLF218 in action, as the sub will be part of the Community system powering the live Wanna Play Stage located outside the NAMM Arena entrance.

Joining the company's existing VLF208 and VLF212 models, the updated VLF218 is a high-efficiency, dual 18-inch subwoofer system with a slim profile and rugged Baltic birch-ply enclosure. Thanks to its 1,600W continuous (4,000W program) power handling and sensitivity of 99 dB / W / m, the unit offers exceptional punch, high output, and low distortion, according to the manufacturer. What's more, the drivers may be configured internally to be driven by a single amp (1,600W @ 4 ohms) or by dual amplifiers (800W @ 8 ohms each).

The VLF218 uses a combination of techniques to keep voice coil temperatures low to avoid power compression that causes reduced output at higher volume levels. Using Active-Air Cooling, the motor structures of each driver are situated inside of the port where the outside moving air actively removes heat from the assembly. Additionally, cone movement drives air through the vented magnet pole-piece to cool the motor structures further.

Likewise, BCL (Balanced Cone Loading) improves the linearity of the system by balancing the front and rear air loads. The 3rd harmonic distortion at 40V (50 percent power) averages less than 1.9 percent over its operating range, and the enclosure has strong internal bracing to reduce sound energy losses from enclosure vibration.

Standard VLF218 units feature pocket lifting handles, corner "hand truck" bar grip handles, tour grade casters, top and bottom stacking cups and rubber feet. Other available standard options include front and rear Seat Track, pole sockets, custom colors, and fiberglass covered weatherized versions.
