Crate BX-15 In Costa Rica

We play the gear we play for many reasons, "tone" not always being the deciding purchasing factor. Sometimes things like cost, availability and "how well does it hold up during the Costa Rican rainy season come into play. Costa Rican artist and musician Roberto Wesson plays a Crate BX-15, which, as you know, is a bass amp, but when it comes to his particular context, it a more reliable amp than more "sophisticated" tube-models. Not a ringing endorsement, perhaps, but still.

ROBERTO WESSON: My name is Roberto Wesson. I'm an artist. I actually am a musician and live in Monteverde.

Soundtrack for the Piranha, [ROBERTO WESSON PLAYING GUITAR LICKS THROUGH THE CRATE BX-15] and the Oscar in the same [INDISCERNIBLE].

Th BX-15 is the -- The others that I had were very big and very hard to carry around, and amplifiers have been known for suddenly just not working in this type of environments, maybe you know humid connections or rusty parts. And some of them just go out, and then a week later they go back again. All the Crates that I have had that problem. They suddenly go [ROBERTO WESSON IMITATES A WHOOSHING SOUND]!

And you think, "Ah, no," and you have to take it to the technician and stuff like that because here in Monterverde you can't really go to a technician right off, so you wait for maybe a couple of weeks and then you put it back again just for sheer luck, and bah! There it is. It's going on. I mean it's working again. So, it has happened to me several times.

Never like high peaks. For example, I'm blowing the amplifier. It never has happened, you know, in this demonstration here, the light changed because the light goes up and down in one or a few [INDISCERNIBLE] meters, so I stay with.

Peavey is very frequent to find and Crate is also frequent because we have people that bring them in. I mean the music store, you just kind of like use one or two brands, so those are two common amplifiers that are used for concerts. It's mostly because of what we can get, and this country is about what, you know, you don't have much options. It's like what you can get on the place.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
