Crate PowerBlock

October 26, 2006
Crate PowerBlock
You might say that Crate's petite PowerBlock is the ultimate practice amp. The PowerBlock is about the size of a loaf of bread, and pushes 150 Watts into 8 Ohms Mono, or 75 Watts per side stereo at 4 Ohms. That's more than enough power to push a 4x12 cab, and when you're done you can throw the amp into a backpack and take it home with you. Features include gain, level, and three-band EQ controls, stereo RCA inputs, line out, effects loop, guitar input, headphone jack, and speaker outs. This may not replace your 1974 Marshall Super Lead, but for frequent practices and jam sessions it could save you some trips to the chiropractor.

CRATE REPRESENTATIVE: One of the important parts of Crate Amplifiers is that we're always coming out with new innovations. For this year, we have a new model called the PowerBlock, the CPB150. This small little package is actually a 150-watt amp head that can run in stereo, 75 watts per side, or it can run 150 watts mono bridge. It has a gain control and a level so it is overdrivable. It weighs 4.6 pounds and comes complete with a carry bag that looks like this that you can carry around your shoulder, very transportable. It works great with a processor or a pedalboard although it sounds really good on its own.

One of the beauties of it is it's real affordable and it's great for a spare amp. It can actually fit in your bag of cables need be. But some of the other applications are for guys that do gigs where they have cabinets already there. You can bring your own head which you're familiar with. Also, you know, running around, cities like Chicago and New York and LA where you're looking for real portable things, it would be a great piece, and it's just really interesting and new. It has a headphone jack built in also for practice at home. You can run it with 412 cabinets. We also have a single 12 cabinet that you can get to go with it. It can run a whole stack or a single 12 cab.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
