Crosstalk 45 Plugs In To Plugins

June 02, 2008
VST Plugins On Crosstalk

Crosstalk charters the vast and dangerous seas of plugins that keep on flooding the software effects market. Bill, Britton and Owen compare VST plugins to analog gear and instrumentation while weighing the many pros and cons of using plugins.

The trio also says its goodbyes to Henry Bianco, who has moved onto bigger and better things, purportedly in the Southwestern desert. Gearwire thanks Henry for sharing his extensive musical gear knowledge with us on Crosstalk.

Henry

I know he got a lot of shit from people leaving comments here, but I actually liked his contributions and am sad to see him go. The revolving door thing isn't too great for establishing crosstalk again.

Sure, Max is fine'n all, but GOMP is KING in the midi domain

Good podcast, for a change

Still, lose Britton and it'd be PERFECT

true

By: bholland

but isn't GOMP a vst, and not an actual development program? I haven't played with it as much as I should, but I seem to remember it being not so much a development tool, as it is an immensely powerful MIDI program.

Hawtin is still a joke

By: Gary Coleman's Penis

Richie Hawtin is the emperor's clothes!

The Prodigy are the Spice Girls of electronic music.

Max Msp makes all your loops sound like a ball of tinfoil being flushed down the toilet.

New Labels DO NOT release tracks through mp3 blogs. That is a bunch of scenesters leeching content and traffic from independent artists. You can use one deck with amputate using Torq. Do not get CDjs, do not get 2 turntables, do not get Serato ... follow Britton's advice and use a controller with Traktor. Ableton Live is the future though.

I'd love to hear two final versions of a track run through vsts and the other through analog gear. Of course there would be all kinds of other factors but it might be a fun experiment to hear how the physical process and final results compared. No death metal though.

Another good one guys!

Richie Hawtin is a joke.
