Crosstalk 50, Part 1: Advice On Classroom Lecture Recorders, And More!
August 26, 2008
In Part 1 of three, we open Crosstalk's 50th episode with some viewer (listener?) mail from Sam regarding the best audio recorder for classroom lectures, a recap of the most news-worthy items from the past week or so, and a discussion of VST hardware hosts. We've actually put an order in for a Muse Receptor, though its nearest competition -- the SM Pro Audio V-Machine -- may prove a bit harder to come by.

music at 4:18 is out of tune
music at 4:18, the guitar is out of tune!!!!!!!
oh, terribly so
it's the news theme. there's nothing to be done. (except make a new news theme. . . I smell a contest!!!)
yes!!!
great idea. should it be a discordant no-wave contest or a techno beat-off? ha!
Miko/Neko?
I thought briefly about getting a MUSE, but as you guys pointed out, it's really one-dimensional. You need more gear to trigger sequences, and you'd need your computer to and a controler to edit all the parameters real time, that's a HEADACHE
So what about the Open Labs Miko/Neko's? Someone said they wanted a way to plug in a sequencer to the Receptor, but it seems to me Open Labs has the solution, if these things work as advertised. Why get a Receptor when you can have a Miko that comes fully loaded with a crapload of patches and a dedicated DAW?
I was skeptical of course but I've been watching them for a while now and I think all the big boys including MUSE are praying they fail, but it seems the artists are taking notice--I'm one of them.
I'd like you guys to review one of these babies on a Crosstalk.
that would be awesome
we should definitely do that. Our receptor is hopefully on its way as well.
